Nike Vaporfly shoes won’t be banned from Olympics

After helping smash marathon records, Nike’s controversial sneaker can still be used by athletes in Tokyo Games. However, track and field’s world governing body on Friday moved to curb the future escalation of running-shoe technology pioneered by Nike’s Vaporflys. The new regulations issued by World Athletics would restrict the thickness of a shoe’s sole, but the group set a limit of 40 millimeters and starting on April 30, any shoe used in elite competition must have been available for purchase on the open retail market for four months.
